Economic Hardship?
Today was my day off, so in my errand running I had to make a quick stop at my bank. Being Friday, there would normally be 8 tellers and maybe four people besides myself in line, yet there were only four harried tellers, and 32 irritated standers. A suit, whom I later identified as Branch Manager, was moving up the line of customers, shaking hands and apologizing, trying to smooth frustrations and make the time go by slightly more pleasantly. He explained to me that due to the nations economic standings, they as a corporation had cut every tellers’ hours in half, because they were not going to fire anyone. Well, that is good measure for the employees, as it’s not anyone’s fault that our nation is in such critical placings, none of us should have to suffer for Big Brother’s mistakes. Yet, we are all tightening our belts right now. We are, each and every one, are going without. So, I drove home, as that was my last stop of the day, turned on my laptop, and listened to my messages. My boss had both e-mailed and called me, explaining that due to the economic hardships of our nation, I was one of several who were laid off. Wonderful… I have 4 children to support, and I am already late in rent AND bills. I cringe to imagine what is in store for us, as a people.
