Creativity
Writers block. We have all had it, we will each get it again. There are many things you can do to get those creative juices flowing again.
1. Do something different. Walk away from your keyboard, note pad, journal. Set down the pen or mouse, and go do something. Anything. Make a snack. Read a magazine. Go for a walk. Take a nap. Play with the dog. Whatever. Just do something that requires you to shut off the “writing” part of your brain; if your creative juices just aren’t flowing, you may need to turn off that part of your mind, and let it reboot.
2. If you generally write on the computer, shut it down and grab a notepad instead. Studies have shown that the logical hemisphere of the brain is in action while you are typing on a keyboard, whereas when there is a pencil in your hand and paper in front of you, the creative hemisphere of you brain takes over.
3. Read a good book. Find authors you enjoy, whose work you respect, and read. Reading thought provoking content stimulates the nerves in your brain, essentially hot wiring them!
4. Meditate. Meditation is the single most important creativity provoking tool, available to all, for free. Sit or lie in a comfortable position, close your eyes, relax, breathe deeply. Focus on your breath, the inhale, the exhale. Meditation relaxes your body, slows your heartbeat, slows blood pressure, and enables your brain to take a time out, giving it time to refresh.
